Grove Farm Homestead

grove farm homestead

Grove Farm Homestead, situated in Lihue, was initially owned by George N. Wilcox and his nieces. Wilcox was also the owner of the large Kilohana sugar plantation in Kauai. In 1864, Wilcox built his home on the extensive lands of the 80-acre (32-ha) Grove Farm Plantation. This famous Wilcox family home was converted into a museum in 1978.

The Grove Farm Homestead Museum illustrates the rise to fame of the prominent Wilcox family. The main house is still in an immaculate condition. It has an elegant staircase and walls made of native Koa wood. Besides, there is a wash house, guest cottage, and a tea house on the grounds. Museum tours are available on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10 AM to 1 pm. It is always advisable to make advance reservations. Admission is charged at $5 for adults and $2 for children of age 12 and below.

The Grove Farm Homestead can be easily reached by driving along Highway 50, east from Puhi towards Lihue and then, turning right Nawiliwili Road just past Mile Marker #1 before entering the town of Lihue. The Farmhouse is situated just ½ down the road to the left.
