Hanakoa valley is the famous hanging valley in Kauai. A hanging valley is a tributary valley that has a floor at a higher relief than the channel into which it flows. The Hanakoa Valley has absolutely no beach access. The magnificent Hanakoa Valley has two major scenic viewpoints. At both these viewpoints, a small ridge continues towards the ocean. For the time being, no camping is allowed at Hanakoa. One can reach the Hanakoa Valley via the 11-mile (18-km) long scenic Kalalau Trail. After the Hanakoa Valley, the Kalalau Trail heads towards the dry side of the island.
