The Kauai Museum is situated in Lihue, a magnificent town in East Kauai. It houses everything from feathered leis to vintage photographs, which reflect the Island's rich, natural heritage. The major attraction in the museum is the permanent exhibit called “The Story of Lanai” that features a number of Hawaiian artifacts and depicts the history of the Kauai Island.
Besides, the museum also houses a number of traveling and temporary exhibits. The Museum also hosts several events throughout the year. Hiking and camping permits can be obtained in the state offices, located just behind the museum, on Ewa Street. The Kauai museum also has an elegant gift shop, admission to which is free for all. The shop sells a number of books, maps, and assorted items. Admission to the Museum is charged at $5 for an adult; $4 for seniors; $3 for children of age 13-17; $1 for children of age 6-12. Admission is free for children under 6.
The museum can be reached by driving along Highway 50 into Lihue from Puhi, and further on Kuhio Highway (Highway 56). You can, then, turn right on Rice Street at mile marker #0. The Kauai Museum is just two blocks down on the left of the street.
