Kilauea Point

kilauea point

Kilauea Point is a narrow, lava peninsula obtruding from the northern shore of Kauai, Hawaii.  It is situated on the northernmost tip of the Hawaiian Islands and is a well-frequented spot in Hawaii. Over three million tourists visit this point every year. Great hiking opportunities are provided at this spot. This spectacular viewpoint offers breathtaking views of the Pacific. The most popular tourist activities here are hiking, camping, bird-watching, and wildlife viewing.

Kilauea Point is the most popular spot in the Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge, which is among the very few Hawaiian refuges that are open to the public. This refuge is home to a number of migratory birds like the Pacific golden plover and seabirds such as the Nene and the Laysan Albatross. One can also watch Hawaiian Monk seals, Humpback whales, and spinner dolphins in this area.

Another major attraction nearby is the Kilauea Lighthouse. The Kilauea Point was bought from the Kilauea Sugar Plantation Company in 1909 and construction of the Kilauea Light in the area started in the year 1912.
