Kilohana Plantation is located near Lihue in Kauai, the Garden Isle of Hawaii. This plantation encompasses an area of 36 acres (0.14 sq-km) and is the most gracious and a spectacular visitor destination. It is well known for its rich and exotic gardens and its beautifully restored grounds. The old Kilohana Camp houses a number of restored plantation homes, vegetable, fruit, and flower gardens. Many horse-drawn carriage tours to the old Kilohana camp are made available to the tourists.
This spectacular plantation is located in the plain between Mount Waialeale and the legendary Haupu Mountain. The most important historic landmark in these manicured grounds is the magnificent Wilcox mansion. Owned by Gaylord Wilcox, the manager and owner of Grove Farm Plantation and designed by Mark Potter in 1936, this mansion soon became a hub of social and business life in Kauai. Several crops and livestock are still grown in the plantation surrounding the house. Besides, there are a number of century-old staff and guest houses around the main house.
A narrow gauge tourist railroad with vintage diesel locomotives has been recently installed to provide tours of the plantation. The Kauai Plantation Railway has, thus, made a significant contribution in making the Kilohana Plantation a showplace for Kauai’s agricultural history. Besides, this area is known for a variety of other attractions and several cultural and recreational events organized throughout the year.
This famous Wilcox family home in Kilohana plantation has now been converted into an elegant restaurant and gift shop. In fact, it has become a shopper’s paradise with wide variety of fashions, art crafts, food, jewelry, and gifts of Hawaii. The magnificent antiques and art work of this Tudor-style mansion are worth watching. Consummate, unmatched shopping, Gaylord's Courtyard Restaurant, and a romantic ride around the surrounding sugar plantation make the Kilohana Plantation the perfect holiday destination.
