Ka`anapali

sunset with palms

Ka`anapali is one of the most beautiful beaches on Maui. It overlooks most of the Ka'anapali resorts. There is a tangible path that runs along the entire length of the beach from Hyatt to the Black Rock. The services and amenities provided at the beach include lifeguards, restrooms, showers, great facilities for terrific snorkeling, swimming, and seasonal high surfing, shops, and restaurants.

This sandy beach is a great place to watch sunsets. The water is clear and flat while the sand is warm and golden in color. The most prominent landmark at Ka`anapali is the ‘Black Rock’ that almost divides the beach into half. The Black Rock is popularly known as the Pu`u Kekaa. Whalers Village Museum is another major attraction nearby. This museum features murals and graphics that illustrate the colorful whaling era of Lahaina. The exhibits at this museum include some of the world’s largest scaling models.

There are as many as 10 significant historical places in Ka`anapali. These include the site of the ancient village of Kekaa, Koko O Na Moku horse racing track, and the Stones of Moemoe and Wahine O Manua/Wahine Pee. You can either choose to take a self –guided tour using the free Ka`anapali Resort Brochure or rent a tour guide.  Sunset Jazz is the most popular night time event at the Ka`anapali Resort. The resorts at Ka`anapali also offer golf and gourmet to the visitors.

Ka`anapali, located north on Route 30 from Lahaina, extends along about 4 miles (6.4 km) of spectacular white-sand beaches and blinding seascapes. Scuba-diving and sea kayaking lessons are also provided here.
