Byodo-In Temple

The Byodo-In Temple, located in Hawaii, is a replica of a very famous temple, Byodoin Temple, situated in Japan. Byodoin Temple, the replica of Byodo-In temple, was constructed in 1052. The Byodo-In Temple, a famous Buddhist temple situated on the Oahu island in Hawaii is a major attraction for the tourists in the Valley of the Temples. Located approximately at 47-200 Kahekili Highway, this temple is a facsimile of a 900-year-old Buddhist place of worship at Uji in Kyoto region of Japan. There is a nine-foot (3 m) Lotus Buddha inside the Byodo-In Temple, which is considered to be the largest wooden Buddha ever carved in past 900 years. It is fully covered in lacquer and gold.
A three-ton, brass peace bell looks beautiful outside the temple. Large koi ponds surround the temple and cover nearly two acres (8,000 m²) of region. There are lush Japanese gardens all around these ponds and are set against a backdrop of Koolau Mountains. One can easily see sparrows here quite often. They play in the garden trees and at the same time peacocks strut about showing their beautiful feathers.
Thousands of people come here from all over the world to visit and worship in the Byodo-In Temple. The temple is not limited to only one religion or faith. It welcomes people of various faiths and beliefs to partake in its traditions. Apart from adoration and worship, the temple ground is used for office meetings and weddings as well. |
