Diamond Head is a famous volcanic tuff cone located in Oahu, state of Hawaii.
Native of Oahu call it as Lēahi. The British sailors gave this an English name in the 19th century. It is said that when British visited this place, they looked at the crystals studded in the rock and though as they were diamonds. Since then this place is quite famous as Diamond Head. Diamond Head is piece of the complex of vents, cones, and their related eruption flows that are altogether famous among the geologists as the Honolulu Volcanic Series.
Many years after the volcano was formed, and eruptions from the Koolau Volcano took place, this volcano has now gone dormant. These volcanic eruptions of Honolulu Volcanic Series are known to produce many landmarks in Oahu that includes Punchbowl Crater, Manana Island, Hanauma Bay, Koko Head and Diamond Head. But Diamond Head is much younger among all the volcanoes. The entire range of the volcanoes is said to be nearly 2.6 million years old while Diamond Head is supposed to 200,000 years old.
A scenic view from the rim attracts everyone as we can see right inside the cone.
This is one volcano which is quite near from the nearby resorts and beaches. That makes it quite easily accessible and attractive tourist place. The volcano’s fame is not limited just to the Hawaii; rather its name is used in many other places, such as the film Diamond Head.
Overall, Diamond Head is widely known and attractive destination in Hawaii.
