Kawaiahao is called the first Christian Church that was built between 1836 and 1842 in in Hawaii. It was constructed in New England style architecture. Mostly it is known as "Westminster Abbey of Hawaii".  The main structure comprises of fourteen thousand coral slabs. All these slabs are quarried by hand and each slab’s weight is nearly more than 1000 pounds.

In the beginning of the year, four grass churches stood in this region. The Ko'olau Mountains played a major role for the interior decoration of the church as all the wood for the interior was cut from these mountains. The church at present accommodates nearly 4,500 people. King Lunalilo is said to be the first nominated emperor of Hawaii. His had last wish to be buried in the Church cemetery rather than the Royal Mausoleums.

Congregational Church provides services on Sundays from 8am and 10:30am while services on Wednesday are at 6pm. Church remains open Monday to Friday from 8:30am-4pm. Meter and free parking is easily available on the street.

The sanctuary is famous for “the tower clock”, which is normally famous a s the Kauikeaouli clock, and it was made in the memory of King Kamehameha III.
This tower clock was made by the Howard & Davis Clock Makers, a famous clockmaker of Boston, Massachusetts. The king himself used to supervise all the process when this clock was being mase. The Mechanics reached with the clock in the year 1850.
