General Information
Nestled in the Rocky mountain region and located in the pacific northwestern part of USA, find the State of Idaho, home to over 1.4 million people. Away from the coastal belt and completely surrounded by land, this state shares a common borderline with six US states namely Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Montana and Wyoming and the British Columbia province of Canada. Boise is the capital city and also the largest in the state. Idaho Falls and Pocatello are the other important cities.
On account of its location in the Rocky mountain region, Idaho is blessed with abundant natural resources and hence its nickname - The Gem State. Three major rivers, the Snake River, Salmon River and Clearwater River pass through its land while Boise River and Payette River are other important water bodies. Several mountain ranges decorate its landscape, with the Borah Peak, 12,662 feet (3859 m) in height, is recognized as the highest point in Idaho. Other natural attractions include the Hells Canyon, named as the deepest canyon in the country, the superb Shoshone Falls where water thrusts down splendidly.
Skiing is also widespread in Idaho, with the snow capped mountains offering the perfect setting. Sun Valley Resort in Ketchum Valley and Silver Mountain resort in Kellogg are the best of their kind in the country. Another popular destination is situated in eastern Idaho, the trout stream named as Henry's Fork of the Snake River where fly-fishing presents a one of its kind experience. When in Idaho Falls do not miss the Museum of Idaho, the state’s foremost national traveling exhibit museum that displays the natural and cultural history of the region.
Idaho’s partially holds the Yellowstone National Park and is extremely close to Grand Teton Nation Park, other reasons to be visiting this treasured state.
