Coeur d'Alene

coeur d'alene

A haven for tourists, Coeur d'Alene is part of the Kootenai County, in northern Idaho and has nature’s treasures in abundance. Pristine waters bordered by pine forested mountains topped with blue skies are indications of the amazing natural setting of this city. The present day Coeur d'Alene has an added appeal in the form of some of the finest resorts in entire Northwest Pacific region.

Coeur d'Alene derives its name from the tribes of the region named so by French Traders who frequented the area. Situated on the banks of Lake Coeur d'Alene, the city traces its origin to Fort Sherman, a military fort built in 1878. The excitement of gold rush in the year 1883 lead to a dramatic increase in the population but as the mining activity subsided people disbursed to nearby locations. However with more and more visitors discovering the beauty of the region, tourists started flocking in and the boom of early 1900’s is still being carried forward.

Today there is bustling activity all around the region with downtown Coeur d'Alene itself hosting over 100 restaurants, motels and shopping arcades.  Activities galore are a hallmark of Coeur d'Alene, catering to people of all tastes and interests. Ski resorts of international standards are situated in the area and enable tourists to schedule their vacations all year round. While summers can be spent in hiking, mountaineering, mountain biking, fishing or lazing around, winters are the most exciting time of the year with the best in the country skiing and winter sports facilities. Numerous Idaho State Parks are located closely enabling visitors to explore other locations.

Right from the common man to celebrities, every one dreams of a vacation in Coeur d'Alene, one of the most breathtaking spots in the country.
