Situated in the heart of Idaho, Galena Summit is a popular tourist destination, with a scenic hiking trail and attractive skiing resorts in its vicinity. The Galena mountain peak standing over 8000 feet tall is part of the spectacular Sawtooth Mountain Range. Hiking at Galena is a pleasure as several interesting trails capturing the beauty of the pine dominated landscape are present. Also the view during sunrise and sunset of the Sawtooth Mountain Range that seems to be cutting into the skies, from Galena Summit is greatly admired.
On account of its high altitude the terrains of Galena are conducive to winter sports and are suitably snow covered for more than six months in a year. Skiing is a prime reason why tourists flock the summit during winters as the region around Galena Summit is home to some of the most beautiful ski resorts in the country. It is also the natural divider of the Big Wood River and Salmon River.
Historically the summit is important as the first road over the summit was laid in the year 1881 to facilitate transport of supplies to the mines situated at Vienna and Sawtooth City. These cities that were once bustling with mining activity are no longer inhabited, but a part of that ancient road is visible till date.
For environmentalists and outdoor enthusiasts, Galena Summit is a journey to enjoy and a destination to cherish.
