Idaho Falls is the largest city in the Eastern Idaho region as well as in the Bonneville County, Idaho. It is also the fifth largest city in the State. Situated in the heart of some of the best known recreation areas of the world, Idaho Falls is a regional center for education, shopping, cultural activities, and medical care. The major recreation area in and around the city include the Sun Valley, Targhee, Craters of the Moon, Yellowstone and Grand Teton National parks, Henry's Lake, Island Park, Jackson Hole, the Sawtooths, and many other national forests. Besides, four golf courses are situated at a short distance from the city. The famous 18-hole Sand-creek Golf Course to the southeast is one of the three maintained and managed by the city of Idaho Falls. The other two include the brand new Sage Lakes Golf Course and Pine-crest Golf Course. The Idaho Falls Country Club to the south is a private course.
The City is also home to the Idaho Falls Aquatic Center, a modern indoor public facility offering ample space to play in the water. The Center houses two hot pools and a āZā shaped pool that holds nearly 285,000 gallons (180 cubic meters) of water. The Aquatic Center is a great place to relax or take fitness training and swimming lessons. Excellent opportunities for camping are made available in campsites situated in the Island Park and the Palisades Reservoir Region. Extensive trail system is also provided for hiking, horse back riding, and mountain biking. Great fishing is offered at the South Fork of the Snake River, the Henry Fork, the Silver Creek, the Madison, the Big Hole, Yellowstone, and the Beaverhead. Other recreational activities at Idaho Falls include Hunting, wildlife viewing, photography, skiing, snow mobiling, and whitewater rafting. Idaho Falls owes its being to the Snake River and the railroad. The City has a lot to offer to a traveler, the vacationer, businessman, and resident alike.
