The city of Boise in Idaho has a landmark as popular as itself. The Julia Davis Park is acclaimed for its historic background and also for the generosity of Thomas Davis one of the pioneers who established the City of Boise. Thomas Davis donated the land currently holding the Julia Davis Park in the year 1907 in the fond memory of his gracious and benevolent wife Julia Davis.
Spread over a vast expanse of about 85 acres in downtown Boise, the park has a host of cultural, historical and ecological facilities including the Zoo Boise, the acclaimed Rose Garden, Idaho State Historical Museum, Boise Art Museum, Black History Museum and Discovery Center. Julia Davis Park also has other attractions for visitors such as a large playground, six tennis courts, lagoon, band shell, the old black steam engine, picnic shelters and river walks making it one of the most admired locations in the city. Boise River Greenbelt cuts right through the park, and has pedestrians and bicyclists traveling on this route. Boise River and Boise State University are located close by.
A host of cultural activities are conducted in the premises of the park including craft fairs, art exhibitions and music shows. On the 23rd of June 2007, the City of Boise rejoiced all day on the occasion of the 100-year anniversary of Julia Davis Park. A festival complete with music, dance, art and history commemorated the 100 year journey of the park.
