The Ketchum Sun Valley Heritage & Ski Museum situated in the former Forest Service complex in Ketchum, Idaho aims at preserving the rich history of the ski industry and the natural heritage of the Upper Wood River Valley. It features a number of exhibits, classes, and programs with great opportunities of community involvement. The most impressive exhibit at the Museum is the one that illustrates the life of Ernest Hemmingway in the Wood River Valley. Besides, the Museum also organizes several special events of historical importance. Many such events offer educational opportunities for residents, students, and visitors.
The main mission of the Ketchum Sun Valley Historical Society is to preserve the regional history for the future generations. It was in 1995 that the Society raised funds and established the Heritage Museum for the public. At present, the Museum has two buildings, which house offices, exhibits, and a gift shop. The middle building serves as a workplace and storage for archival materials. The main permanent exhibits at the Museum include the Northern Shoshone / Tukedeka Exhibit, Mining - Railroad - Sheep Ranching, Early Skiing, Don & Gretchen Fraser Exhibit, Jimmy Griffith, 10th Mountain Division, and the World War I Veterans of Ketchum, Idaho. The Ketchum Sun Valley Heritage and Ski Museum is a great learning experience and is certainly worth a visit at least once.
