Peregrine Fund World Center for Birds of Prey
Boise is home to one of the most fascinating institutions working for the preservation of birds namely the Peregrine Fund World Center for Birds of Prey. Relocated to Boise in 1984 after being initially established in Cornell University in 1970 and in Fort Collins in 1974, the Peregrine Fund has earned the reputation of being an organization sincerely dedicated to the causes it undertakes. Established with the aim of protecting the endangered Peregrine Falcon, eventually the organization expanded its horizons and now is involved in breeding selective reducing populations of birds of prey to be eventually released into their preserved natural habitats. Peregrine Fund World Center has built a modern facility to breed endangered species of birds and conduct research on the health and reproduction of the dying groups. It was in the year 1992 that the Peregrine Fund established the Velma Morrison Interpretive Center to bring the general public closer to its mission. Innovative exhibits, interactive displays, multi-media illustrations and live demonstrations where Condors, owls, eagles, hawks and Aplomado Falcon participate have captivated thousands of visitors who visit the center. The library equipped with extensive books, technical journals, magazines and CD’s and specimens of over 12,000 eggshells and 300 avian skins for researchers talk about the wealth of information accumulated by the institution. The calm and quiet picnic area and Memorial Garden ensure that you can relax in the environs. The birds that you have just seen and the knowledge you have gathered will however be persisting in your thoughts. A gift shop with bird related offerings presents valuable reminisces after your visit ends.
