Central Idaho accommodates one of the most exciting expanses of land designated as the Sawtooth National Recreation Area by the Congress in the year 1972. Wide spread mountain ranges with sharp and uneven peaks give the name “Sawtooth” to this absolute wilderness. Hundreds of peaks with more than 40 peaks scaling above 10,000 feet, over 1000 lakes, numerous deep valleys, five rivers, and three forests, are what collectively make up the exciting region of Sawtooth National Recreation Area.
Spread over 756,000 acres (3060 sq. km.) of stunning terrain, the Sawtooth National Recreation Area can be generally divided into three sectors namely the Sawtooth Wilderness, Stanley / Sawtooth Valley corridor and the White Cloud and Boulder mountain ranges. While Sawtooth Wilderness does not have any roads or fixed man-made structures, it is a favorite for camping and that isolated experience. The Stanley Valley is a favorite with most tourists as it enables them to drive through the scenic locales and also has excellent dining and accommodation facilities. The White Cloud and Boulder mountain ranges are popular with campers, hikers and mountaineers.
The sheer variety of natural wealth in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area offers extensive recreational activities enabling each one of the tourists to participate and enjoy their favorite outdoor sport. So what are you looking for…? Camping, fishing, boating, horseback riding, hiking, mountaineering, sightseeing, hunting, paddling or bird watching, this destination has got it all. Wild life forms such as antelopes, mountain goats, elk, bear, mountain lion and deer inhabit the area. Winters are fun as snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and ice fishing opportunities are in abundance.
No one ever leaves this place without a burning desire to visit it again!
