Idaho State Capitol

The State Capitol of Idaho is a precious monument that is extremely close to the heart of Idaho residents. A majestic sandstone structure, its architectural excellence stands out among the other contemporary buildings on the landscape of Boise, Idaho’s capital city. Constructed in the year 1913, the state capitol is currently closed on account of substantial renovation activity and is expected to be re-opened in 2010.
The charisma of the State Capitol is chiefly derived from the 208 feet high dome and the majestic Rotunda that captivates one and all. Interiors have marble quarried from Georgia, Alaska and Italy while the exteriors are a true reflection of the landscape prominent in the state and are made of native sandstone available in Boise. Inside the State Capitol exhibits featuring the culture and economic activity in Idaho and also portraits of Idaho Governors are displayed.
Housing the Idaho legislature and several state offices within its premises, this building is a symbol of the social, political and economic history of the state. Specially designed underground tunnels are constructed to connect various government offices and are used exclusively by government officials on a day to day basis. They also serve as a bomb cover for the Governor and public servants in times of need. It also has the distinction of being the only state Capitol heated by a geothermal well. A replica of the Liberty Bell is located at the entrance accessible to pedestrians. State Capitol takes you closer to the governance facet of Idaho.
