Sun Valley Lodge

The Sun Valley Resort, situated nearly one mile and a half from the River Run Day Lodge on the Bald Mountain, is America's first destination ski resort. This resort is one of the most famous 5-Star resorts of Idaho and has a lot to offer to its guests every year. It features several top-drawer condominiums and cottages and an elegant Tyrolean-style Sun Valley Inn. However, the Sun Valley Lodge, a grande dame of resort hostelries, holds the pride of the place. This historical Sun Valley Lodge was established in 1936 by Averell Harriman.

The Lodge offers a unique “roughing it in luxury” experience, with its upscale accommodations, fine dining facilities, and spectacular views of the panoramic mountain range surrounding the Resort. At present, this majestic four-storey hotel has as many as 148 rooms with French country interiors, new furniture, plasma televisions, and marble appointed bathrooms. The oak-paneled walls of the public rooms have a visible glaze of history. The magnificent lobby of the Lodge sports several black-and-white photos of “glitterati on skis” who vacationed here in the past, including Marilyn Monroe, Mary Pickford, Lucille Ball, and Gary Cooper.

Other facilities provided at the Lodge include Gretchen’s, the Duchin Lounge, sauna and heated swimming pool, bowling alley, the Lodge Dining Room, Sun Valley Salon & Day Spa, massage center, workout facility, game room, an elegant gift shop, and room service. The Lodge Dining Room has the elegance of an earlier era. It is known for its white glove service and romantic dancing to live music. Besides, the cozy alcoves and nooks are decorated with trophies, polished silver cups, and other treasured mementos of the history of this splendid lodge. In addition, there is an outdoor ice rink nearby, which hosts a number of summer ice shows in the summer season. A lavish buffet dinner is offered on the terrace just before the ice skating vaudeville begins.
