Wood River Trail

wood river trail

The 22-mile (35-km) Wood River Trail System extends from north of Ketchum through Hailey to Bellevue and is constructed over the old railroad route through the Wood River Valley. The Trail cuts through the Sawtooth Mountains of southern Idaho and finally connects to a 10-mile (16-km) paved trail at Elkhorn Road, in the Sun Valley. The Wood River Trail has played an integral role in the growth and development of this area.

A number of historic places of interest are situated along the trail. Most of these historical places emphasize on the history of the railroad. Besides, there are also many horse ranches, ski slopes, small hay fields, and golf courses along the way. The Wood River Trail is also famous with the outdoor enthusiasts. The major recreational activities in the area include horseback riding, skiing, skating, bicycling, and walking.

Many lodging properties and condominium complexes are situated within approximately a quarter of a mile or less of the bike path. Other trail amenities include interpretive sites, benches, location signs, picnic benches, and distance markers. All these amenities are designed with a tasteful and an unobtrusive blend of stone and wood to harmonize with the natural setting.
