Figge Art Museum

The Figge Art Museum, situated in Davenport, Iowa, was established on August 6, 2005. It is the successor of the Davenport Museum of Art, the first municipal art gallery in the State. Designed by the renowned British architect David Chipperfield, the Figge Art Museum has been named after the V.O. and Elizabeth Kahl Figge Foundation. This 115,000 square-foot (11,000 sq. m.) museum is affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution.

The Museum is well known for its unique collection of Colonial Mexican, Midwestern, and Haitian art. The most impressive feature of the collection is a compilation of master pieces by Marvin Cove, Grant Wood, and Thomas Hart Benton. This collection also features the only self-portrait featured by Wood. The American collection at the Museum comprises of works by Ansel Adams, Winslow Homer, Andrew Wyeth, and Jasper Johns.

The Museum also holds a collection of European art and works from East Asia. The Figge Art Museum is also home to the Grant Wood Archives. The Henry Luce Foundation offers substantial support for the preservation of these archives.
