Iowa City, situated in Iowa, is the county seat of Johnson County and is the sixth largest city in the state. It is home to the University of Iowa and a famous tourist destination in Iowa. The major tourist attractions in the UI’s Campus include the Old Capitol building, the University of Iowa Art Museum, and the famous Plum Grove, house of the first governor of Iowa.
The literary heritage of the City is reflected in the Iowa’s Writer’s Workshop and the Iowa Avenue Literary Walk. The latter features a series of bronze relief panels that depict the words and attributions of nearly 49 authors who had ties with Iowa. Iowa City also hosts the famous Non-Fiction Writing Program, the Iowa Summer Writing Festival, the Iowa Playwrights Workshops, and the Nobel Peace Prize-nominated International Writing Program. Besides, Iowa City also has a variety of cultural offerings. It sponsors the ‘Summer of the Arts’ program, which features a number of events including a nationally renowned jazz festival, open-air summer movies, a festival of the arts, open-air summer movies, and free concerts in the pedestrian mall.
The Pedestrian Mall attracts thousands of visitors every year to Iowa City. It is home to a number of restaurants, retail, bars, hotels, and the Iowa City Public Library. It also hosts the Iowa City Arts Festival and the Iowa City Jazz Festival. Other main places of tourist interest in the City include the Hancher Auditorium and the Hamburg Inn No. 2, a famous restaurant and a campaign stop for political candidates.
