The Putnam Museum and IMAX Theatre, situated on the “museum hill” in Davenport, Iowa, is a popular museum of natural science and history in the state. Founded in the year 1867, this museum features over 160,000 historical artifacts and specimens. The permanent exhibits at the Museum include the ‘Black Earth, Big River’ and the Hall of Mammals. The former aims at exploring the past and present habitats of the Quad-Cities region. It houses a 718-gallon aquarium, which features a cave, river fish, and a huge oak tree.
The Hall of Mammals, on the other hand, is a multi-sensory exhibit, which features a number of photographs, realistic dioramas, and hands-on-activities that explain a number of mammals, from African Zebras to Arctic polar bears. Besides, the museum also features a regular rotation of changing displays and exhibits. The IMAX Theater has a 57’ X 70’ movie screen the largest in the state of Iowa. The Theater is also equipped with 3D capabilities.
