‘The heart of America’s west is how the popular Midwestern State of Kansas is usually referred. Named after a North American tribe called Kansa, the state of Kansas is believed to have been home to several nomadic tribes for several bygone centuries. Bordered by Colorado, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma, the State of Kansas is divided into 105 counties. Topeka is the capital city, while Wichita is the largest and the most populated city in Kansas. Overland Park, Kansas City and Olathe are other well known urban regions.

Kansas has exciting stuff to offer one and all. History enthusiasts will be thrilled to visit the innumerable state museums and the 16 historic sites. Traveling around the celebrated cowboy towns is indeed one of the rare privileges. Situated in Topeka, the Kansas Museum of History offers comprehensive displays by means of over 30,000 exhibits, the account of prehistoric times to the modern era.

Nature buffs are swept off their feet in the magical land of Flint Hills, where nature walks, prairie burns, hiking and horseback rides bring time to a standstill. Additionally this culturally rich land has several rodeos and festivals that electrify the atmosphere.
The Outdoor expanses offered by Kansas are both beautiful and truly vast. Among the places adored by tourists is Kanopolis – the first state park of Kansas, located in the Smoky Hill River Valley, the 1250-acre (500-hectare) Shawnee Mission Park in Kansas City is and the Lovewell State Park renowned for its fishing lake. Another famous destination is the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve situated close to Strong City, Kansas. Here the tallgrass prairie ecosystem that flourished in the past is preserved along with several historic buildings.

Kansas has a cold winters and hot summers, with precipitation varying broadly from higher levels in the east to lower levels in the west.
