Boot Hill Museum

dodge city shootout diorama, boot hill museum

One of the popular tourist attractions in Kansas, Boot Hill Museum was established in 1947 in the frontier town of Dodge City to preserve the history of Old West that once flourished in the region. The exhibits, history recreations and audio visual displays collectively ensure that tourists explore the vibrant past through intriguing means.

The most captivating part of this western history museum is the recreated Front Street buildings that house hundreds of original artifacts, including the 200 original guns neatly put up on display. On the whole there are over 20,000 authentic artifacts from the year 1865 onwards which add historical and educational value to the trip.

Dodge City was considered to be the hub of cattle trade in the 1870’s and interesting interpretive series along with theatrical presentations bring alive the city in the year 1876. Visitors on a trip during summers are treated on an everyday basis to stagecoach rides, mock gunfights, the Long Branch Variety Show and delicious chuck wagon dinner among others. A school house, a cattleman’s house, a saloon, a cemetery, a jailhouse and a church – all renovated structures authentically replicate the bygone era.

The Boot Hill Museum houses the Boot Hill Store which is filled with interesting memorabilia, some worth preserving for a lifetime.
