An important site to explore the history of Kansas, the Kansas History Center is a complex run by The Kansas State Historical Society, which is also headquartered here. Located on the celebrated Oregon Trail, the Kansas History Center has the acclaimed Kansas Museum of History, the one-room Stach school-house, the Koch Industries Education Center, The Discovery Place and the Center for Historical Research.
The Kansas History Center has highly commended artifacts from prehistoric days to the present, and includes locomotives, flags, arms and ammunition among award winning displays.
The Stach School is a single room recreated Kansas school dating back to 1920’s.
The Koch Industries Education Center is a mission classroom from 1850’s built to educate the Potawatomi Indian tribes.
The Discovery Place is the ideal destination for children of all ages to get hands on learning about the past of Kansas.
The Center for Historical Research houses the research material of the Historical Society and includes books, maps, newspapers etc ideal for researchers.
Collectively these historic treasures spread on an 80 acre campus are a must for one and all as the hundreds of artifacts beautifully revive the golden past of Kansas.
The 2.5-mile (4.0-km) Kansas History Center Nature Trail commences from the Kansas History Center. Taking visitors through prairie, woodlands and important historic locations, this trail offers spectacular scenic views and picnicking spots.
