The Kansas University Natural History Museum and Biodiversity Research Center was established in the city of Lawrence – Kansas in the year 1866. With main focus on studying the life inhabiting earth, the six floor museum building which is housed in a century old limestone structure, examines diverse life forms and their existence patterns in its highly acclaimed research works.
Several thousands of tourists flock in to look at the exhibits showcasing various species of flora and fauna and their stunning diversity across the globe. From dinosaur skulls to live native fish of Kansas, the museum covers almost all types of the living beings present in Kansas and its surrounding regions. Its century and a half remarkable existence has enriched the bio research scenario of the state and the country.
The display of Comanche, a horse that survived the Battle of the Little Bighorn is the star attraction for children and adults alike. Stuffed birds and animals bring to life the creatures that inhabit Kansas and its surroundings. The museum’s diorama that exhibits the “Panorama of North American plants and animals” is said to be the largest in the world. Research resources here are indeed a treasure trove as starting from DNA Samples to sound recordings there are rarest of rare research material at the disposal of students.
Kansas Natural History Museum offers several interesting and engaging programs that include summer camps, science workshops, events and other activities all year through. Learning is fun and children greatly enjoy the experience.
