Kansas State Capitol

Kansas State Capitol is a beautiful and towering structure that truly captivates visitors of all ages. Situated on a 20-acre campus in the state’s capital city of Topeka, Kansas State Capitol building houses the Kansas Legislature and is a symbol of great pride to the residents of Kansas. Listed on the National Register of Historic places, the Capitol has several attractions lined up.

A 22 feet tall bronze statue of Ad Astra, a Kansa warrior, stands on the tip of the Capitol dome. Statues of Abraham Lincoln and replica of the Statute of Liberty are some of the notable sculptures found in Kansas State Capitol grounds.

The Capitol has its inner walls decorated with attractive mural creations by John Steuart Curry and includes the famous Tragic Prelude mural that depicts John Brown and the anti-slavery movement. Kansas Pastoral is another admired painting that brings alive the harvest season in the state.

The spectacular Capitol Dome tour presents a great opportunity to admire the marvelous interiors. The 296 steps that take visitors to the top of the dome is just the perfect way to observe the intricate architecture and the awesome combination of marble and glass. Upon reaching the top, the view of Topeka city is breathtaking to say the least. Kansas Historical Society also organizes the Historical Tour of the Capitol for various groups including students, adults, etc and advance booking is recommended.

A spacious 150 year old State Library with over 250,000 books on the state is located in the premises. Also, there is a Capitol store that has numerous interesting items related to the State Capitol and souvenirs to remind you of the memorable visit.
