Topeka

Located in Northeastern Kansas along the Kansas River, Topeka is the capital city of Kansas State, U.S.A. The county seat of Shawnee County, the economy of the Topeka is largely supported by government offices, with Fortune 500 firms like Frito-Lay, Inc., Hill's Pet Nutrition, and Hallmark Cards, Inc also having their facilities here.

Topeka has several important attractions that draw visitors from all over the country. Its climate is described as hot continental with hot summers and short cold spell winters and is considered favorable for tourists for the greater part of the year.

Of the nearly twenty major attractions the Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site that highlights the Civil Rights Movement of 1954 and the Kansas State Capitol Building are most important. Also the remarkable Kansas History Museum which has several highly acclaimed exhibits and the Old Prairie Town at Ward-Meade Historic Site that is a recreated pioneer village enthrall tourists. Art enthusiasts have about 15 art galleries to explore some masterpieces. Music and theatre lovers also have exciting fare on cards with the grand presentations by the Topeka Symphony Orchestra and The Topeka Performing Arts Center being much acclaimed.

Recreational opportunities are aplenty with the Gage Park that houses the popular Topeka Zoo, drawing a large number of crowds. Lake Shawnee and Heartland Park Topeka are other major outdoor activity centers. Shopping is an absolute pleasure in the West Ridge Mall that is spread over 1 million square feet and is the city’s prime shopping destination.
