The City of New Iberia, situated 125 miles (201 km) west of New Orleans, is the parish seat of Iberia Parish in Louisiana. This city is well known for its scenic beauty and the pleasant sub-tropical climate. The region has a number of natural features of interest, including Lake Peigneur, Avery Island, and Jungle Gardens. Avery Island is best known for its Tabasco sauce factory and the oldest salt mine in North America.

New Iberia is also home to many places of tourist interest. Shadows-on-the-Teche is a magnificent historic residence, owned and managed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The 7-foot (2.1-m) tall ancient, marble statue of Roman emperor Hadrian, situated on the corner of Weeks and St. Peter Streets, dates back to 117-138 AD. The major cultural events hosted by the city include the public concerts organized by the Iberia Community Band; the annual Bunk Johnson/New Iberia Jazz, Arts & Heritage Festival, also known as the Bunk Fest; and the famous Sugar Cane Festival, held to commemorate the commencement of the sugarcane harvest.
