Poverty Point National MonumentPoverty Point National Monument, situated at the Poverty Point State Historic Site in Epps, Louisiana, is a wilderness region popular with people from all around the globe. The site receives high level of rain and is a reasonably wet site. At the Monument, the summer highs are usually in the 90’s, while the summer overnight lows fall down to the 70’s. On the other hand, winter highs regularly are in the 50’s and winter lows in the 30’s overnight. The Site encompasses an area of nearly 911 acres (0.3 sq-km). The National Monument was authorized on October 31, 1988. Poverty Point National Monument is well known for its breathtaking nature scenery. It is also recognized for its outdoor recreational activities. Situated in north-eastern Louisiana, this National Monument memorializes the culture, which flourished during the first and second millennia B.C. The Poverty Point State Historic Site also features the largest and the most intricate pre-historic earth works in North America. At present, the site and the Monument are owned and managed by the state of Louisiana. The Site also comprises of a Museum, which exhibits a number of artifacts found on the site and offers an interesting audio-visual presentation. The Museum also hosts a number of special events, programs, guided tours, and tram tours. The Tram tours are made available only from March through October. State Park facilities are open to the public. However, no federal facilities are offered at the site.
