Vermilionville, situated on banks of the Bayou Vermilion, in Lafayette, Louisiana, was established in 1990 by the Lafayette Parish Bayou Vermilion District, which comprises of 9 individuals, referred to as the commissioners. These individuals are appointed by the Council President, the Area Mayors, and the Lafayette Consolidated Government Parish President and have ultimate authority over two distinct entities, the Vermilionville Heritage & Folk-life Park and Vermilion River Operations.

Vermilionville, a Cajun/Creole heritage and folk life park, realistically depicts a way of life preserved with a distinctly French accent. It aims at recreating life in the Acadiana area between 1765 and 1890. The spectacular grounds of this park are laid out as an historic village, featuring as many as 12 historical structures and six restored original homes. Costumed interpreters demonstrate the musical styles and traditional crafts exhibited in these structures.

Vermilionville also features a full-service restaurant, art gallery, and an elegant gift shop. The gallery and the ‘La Boutique’ gift shop hold Cajun and Creole items, which are made by traditional crafts-people. La Cuisine De Maman Restaurant, situated in the Festive Area of Vermilionville, houses two spacious dining rooms that can easily accommodate nearly 60 people. Visitors can also experience the tidal river, the Bayou Vermilion, while riding the traditional bateau. Spring boat tours and fall boat tours are also made available to the visitors. In addition, the National Park Service Interpretive Ranger offers a compelling voyage that offers Fascinating information about the Beautiful Vermilion River.
