Recreation State Map General Information Maine, the Pine Tree State, is located in the northeastern part of the USA and over 90 percent of its terrain is covered by pine trees. The state shares its border with the state of New Hampshire and Canada, with the water bodies of Gulf of Maine and Atlantic Ocean making for the remaining borderline. Augusta is the state capita, with Portland being the largest city and the state on the whole divided into 16 counties. Four rivers namely Kennebec River, Androscoggin River, Penobscot River and St. John River along with two lakes the Lake Moosehead and Richardson Lakes are situated in Maine. Renowned for its scenic locales including the rocky coastline, glittering beaches, rolling mountains coupled with thick forest interiors, Maine is truly nature’s paradise. The man-made setting of Maine such as the striking lighthouses and charming fishing villages enhance the natural beauty.
