Crow Wing State Park

chippewa outlook, crow wing state park

Bestowed with bountiful natural resources, the over 3100 acre Crow Wing State Park makes for a blissful trip. Located at the confluence of the majestic Mississippi River and the Crow Wing River, this Minnesota State Park has the choicest treasures from the natural world. On account of its location – an erstwhile popular town of 1850’s called Old Crow Wing- the present day park is listed on the National Registrar of Historic Places.

Historians suggest that the site was once inhabited by Native American tribes and could have witnessed a major battle in the late 1760’s. In the 1800’s the region is believed to have been the hub of traders, especially fur traders and travelers. Today, most structures have been moved and visitors will find a couple of ancient houses and a cemetery.

The backdrop and environs of the park enthrall visitors while the recreational opportunities make for a thoroughly enjoyable outing. The hiking trials are taken by most tourists as they offer scope to explore the vast landscape that includes pine, hardwood forests, wetlands and prairie grasslands. Innumerable camping and picnicking spots enable visitors to choose their idyllic backdrop for relaxing and unwinding. Boats and rafts can be rented from the park premises to cruise along the pristine waters.

Visitors can spot wildlife such as the white-tailed deer, muskrat, beaver, fox and waterfowl and several bird species including bald eagle and hawks.

There are special programs for children all round the year that encourage them to explore the natural world.
