Dorothy Molter Museum

The Dorothy Molter Museum pays the perfect tribute to Dorothy Molter, the most respected and adored resident of the Boundary Waters Wilderness Area in Minnesota.

Dorothy Molter earned great revere and regard from locals and tourists alike for her kindness and generosity. Known popularly as the Root Beer Lady, she sold home made root beer to the canoeists passing the wilderness for several years. A trained nurse, Dorothy offered first aid and treatment to people with minor injuries and lived in the wilderness area until her death in the year 1986, at the age of 56.

Today, tourists can visit the original home of Dorothy in The Isle of Pines that was relocated to the pine carpeted outskirts of Ely in Minnesota in the year 1987. The two original cabins have been restored at this site and hold her personal belongings. Volunteers at the Dorothy Molter Memorial Foundation will narrate to you the life and times of this kind hearted individual, also called as the "Nightingale of the Wilderness". It would be interesting to know that Dorothy not only adored the wilderness but was multi-skilled and extremely adventurous. She explored the forest region through boating, hiking, skiing and canoeing.
It is good to be to this unique museum that highlights the life and times of an adorable personality.
