Recognized as the first fresh water aquarium in the country and home to more than hundred fish species, numerous birds, sea animals like turtles, otters and sea horses, this non-profit aquarium delights children and adults alike.
Earlier called as the Lake Superior Center, you would be mistaken if you think that this is just any another aquarium. The Great Lakes Aquarium and Freshwater Discovery Center takes visitors through an exciting trip of exploring the immediate ecosystem, the unique flora and fauna of the region, the geological details and the historic background.
With more than 30 interactive exhibits, a captivating recreation of a small section of Lake Superior, and large fresh water tanks that hold the inhabitants of Lake Superior, Great Lakes Aquarium is attractive enough for a large chunk of the 5 million Duluth tourists to drop in annually. Another major treat is the spectacular view of the Aerial Lift Bridge from the aquarium premises. Not to forget the educative programs organized at the center that engage people of all age groups, and truly add value to the trip.
The gift shop at Great Lakes Aquarium is filled with souvenirs, puzzles, mugs, stuffed animals etc and is a wonderful place to pick some timeless memorabilia.
