Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center

The harbor city of Duluth - Minnesota has a rich marine history and the Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center is the best place to explore the nautical past of this region. With a comprehensive museum that holds a wide collection of exhibits including old shipwrecks, the center is managed by the US Army Corps of Engineers and admits one and all free of cost at all times.
Established in 1973 and located in close proximity to the historic Aerial Lift Bridge, the major attractions of the Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center are the replicas of ancient ship cabins, a 3 storey steam engine, antique charts and maps used by voyagers, the attractive scale models of vessels operating in the Great Lakes and displays that pay tribute to the Lewis and Clark expedition among others. Additionally the numerous interactive exhibits make the learning truly enjoyable for visitors of all ages.
Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center organizes several educative programs for school and college students on weekdays and field trips during summer time. Hiking trails and shipping tours organized by the center attract large crowds and make for great family outings.
Views of the boats sailing on Lake Superior, the sea gulls and the view of lighthouses from the center premises present a picturesque sight and visitors can simply sit back and relax in the serene environs.
