Saint Paul is the capital and second most populous city of Minnesota. It lies just west of Minneapolis, across the Minnesota River. These two cities make the core of the Twin Cities metropolitan area, the fifteenth largest in the country. Saint Paul, the county seat of Ramsey County, the most populated county in Minnesota. Natives of Saint Paul are known as Saint Paulites. Saint Paul began as a pub, run and managed by Pierre Parrant, also known as "Pig's Eye", as he was blind in one eye.
Nearly 2000 years ago, this place was home to the Hopewell culture Native Americans, who burying their dead in nearby mounds, which can now be visited in the Indian Mounds Park.
During the 19th century, Saint Paul became a main center for trading and transportation in Minnesota, as steamboats were unable to travel past this region. Saint Paul was incorporated as a city in 1854 and it became the capital of Minnesota in 1858.
Saint Paul is a hub for various cultural activities. Some of the well known institutes include Circus Juventas, a youth performing arts circus school, Starting Gate Productions RiverCentre (city's civic center), Ordway Center for the Performing Arts, The Fitzgerald Theater, SteppingStone Theatre, The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, and Park Square Theatre. Apart from this, plenty of musical groups and pubs are a key attraction of the city. Another major attraction is the Landmark Center.
