Since its inception in 1979, the Delta Blues Museum has continuously enthralled audiences to an absolute historical treat. Both permanent and temporary exhibits consisting of musical instruments, photographs, recordings, costumes, paintings and other artifacts find place here. Sponsored by the City of Clarksdale, the museum is located in the former Clarksdale freight depot and acts as the ideal platform to preserve and interpret the background of the Blues. Notably, it is also the oldest museum in the state. Subsequent to the renovation carried out in 1998, the building was accorded the privilege of “Mississippi Landmark Property” in 2001.
For those interested in learning the Blues, Delta Blues Museum has some exciting programs. Its low fee education program that runs all through the year offers the finest Blues related tutoring through symposia and lectures. Additionally with its focus entirely on promoting the musical culture of the region, Delta Blues Museum bestows several grants on deserving Blues musicians.
