Jefferson Landing State Historic Site

jefferson landing state historic site

Three historical buildings - the Lohman Building, the Union Hotel, and the Maus House - that have been restored to their past glory are collectively referred to as the Jefferson Landing State Historic Site. Spread on about 1.3 acres of land, this destination in Jefferson City – Missouri is just a block away from the historic Missouri State Capitol Building.

Jefferson Landing State Historic Site is both important and enchanting as it depicts the City of Jefferson in the early 19th century. The Lohman building dates back to 1839 and was a hotel and a tavern. It also operated as a warehouse and a business centre, the largest in the city in that period. The Union Hotel that had a huge clientele was constructed in 1855 and was initially named as the Missouri Hotel. The Christopher Maus House built in 1854 depicts the residences during that age and is an architectural delight.

All the three buildings were renovated in 1960 and accurately reflect the times they belong to. Today the Lohman building houses the visitor centre which has displays on transportation, while the Union Hotel building is home to the Elizabeth Rozier Gallery that highlights the art and culture of Missouri. The renovated Maus House presently houses the Missouri Mansion Preservation.
Jefferson Landing State Historic Site is truly one corridor along the banks of Missouri which is a must visit.
