Country Club Plaza

The Country Club Plaza, situated in Kansas City, Missouri, is an upscale shopping district designed to accommodate shoppers arriving by automobile. The parking space is concealed either on the rooftops of the buildings or in the multilevel parking garages beneath the shops. Located nearly 4 miles (6 km) south of downtown, the shopping center encompasses an area of over 55 acres (22 hectares). It was designed architecturally after Seville, Spain and opened to the public in 1923. The Country Club Plaza has also been listed on the Project for Public Spaces' list, 60 of the World's Great Places.

Over thirty statues, tile mosaics, architectural reproductions, and murals are on display in the Plaza. The half-sized Giralda Tower of Seville is the tallest building in the area. The Plaza also features precise light fixture replicas of San Francisco's Path of Gold streetlights. Other works of art in the Country Club Plaza commemorate the nature, classics, and historical American themes such as westward expansion. The Plaza is also the prime center for Kansas City events. It is recognized for its annual lighting ceremony, called the Plaza lights, and the annual Plaza Arts Fair.
Today, it houses a number of fine restaurants, high-end retail establishments, offices, and entertainment venues. With over 150 shops and dozens of state-of-art restaurants, the Kansas City’s Country Club Plaza has become a premier dining, retail, and entertainment destination. It is home to wonderful local boutiques like Hudson & Jane, Pinstripes, Hemline, and Lillibelle. The Plaza restaurants are suit to the fancy of those craving for Mexican, Italian, American, or Chinese. It also houses an open-air public art gallery that attracts thousands of visitors every year.
