Kansas City Union Station, situated in Kansas City, Missouri, is a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization. It receives no public funding and its operation costs are funded mainly by theater ticketing, grants, general admission, corporate and private donations, facility rental, and commercial space leases. Union Station is home to a family-friendly interactive Science Center, which features over 50 hands-on-exhibits. Other main facilities at the Station include the H&R Block City Stage Theater; the Reginer Extreme Screen, the largest 3-D movie screen in the region at five and half stories tall; a live-action venue with productions for young and old alike; the Gottlieb Planetarium, the largest planetarium in the area; retail shops, including the Station Master gift shop; a permanent rail exhibit with vintage rail cars; and Irish Museum and Cultural Center is located in the station.
Union Station also houses two restaurants, including Union Café and the Harvey House Diner. The most impressive temporary exhibits displayed at the site include the internationally acclaimed Dead Sea Scrolls. The Site also features the Amtrak passenger train service. At present, there are two trains daily to Chicago; two trains daily to and from St. Louis; and one train daily to the southwest. Union Station, a popular destination for entertainment and cultural activities, is a wonderfully restored 1914 landmark of Kansas City and is worth a visit.
