Forest Park, situated along the western edge of the City of St.Louis in Missouri, is one of the largest urban landscape parks established during the later half of the 19th century. It encompasses a total area of nearly 1,293 acres (5.23 sq. km.) and is approximately 50% larger than the New York’s Central Park. Inaugurated on June 24, 1876, the Forest Park is the former site of the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition. It is bounded by the Lindell Boulevard to the north; Barnes Jewish Hospital and the Washington University Medical Center to the east; the Oakland Avenue to the south; and Washington University in St. Louis to the West.

The original plan of the Forest Park was designed by Maxmillian G. Kern. Today, Forest Park is one of the most popular tourist attractions in St. Louis. Some of the major tourist attractions in the park include the Saint Louis Zoological Park, the Muny, St. Louis Science Center, Saint Louis Art Museum, the Jewel Box, Boathouse Restaurant and boathouse rentals, Missouri History Museum, Dwight Davis Tennis Center, Steinberg Skating rink, and the World’s Fair Pavilion.

The Forest Park is also well known for its recreational activities. It offers several miles of bike and running paths, an archery range, softball, soccer, and baseball fields, and the Norman Probstein Community Golf Course. The Park also plays hosts to the popular Great Forest Park Balloon Race and the Pace Series every year. Forest Park offers a tranquil retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life and is a certainly worth a visit.
