laclede's landing

Laclede's Landing, situated to the north of the Eads Bridge on the Mississippi Riverfront in St. Louis, Missouri, is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the state. It features a unique assemblage of historic cobblestone streets and antediluvian brick-and-cast-iron warehouses. These ancient houses date from 1850 through 1900 and have now been converted into bars, shops, and restaurants. Named after Pierre Laclede, a French fur trapper who first established the St.Louis settlement in 1784, ‘Laclede’s landing’ is a nine-block industrial area that features some of the finest restaurants and sidewalk cafes in St. Louis.

Some of the premier bars and restaurants in the district include Café Mattino, Big Bang, Club Buca, Fast Tuesday, Drunken Fish, Hannegan’s Restaurant & Pub, Morgan Street Brewery, Mississippi Nights, and the Old Spaghetti Factory. The area is also well known for its specialty gift shops. The main venues for shopping include Doctor John’s, St. Louis Souvenirs, and Gibbol’s Novelties and Costumes. In addition, there are a number of hotels in and around the district. The main hotels/motels in Laclede’s landing are the Embassy Suites Hotel and the Hampton Inn Gateway Arch.
This magnificent historical district serves as home to all those who work at the offices situated on the edge of the Mississippi River and rest here during the day. Laclede’s -Landing is also one of the most-frequented entertainment areas in St.Louis. Horse-drawn carriages, sightseeing excursions, live music, and gaming boats offers excellent choices for entertainment. The most popular entertainment venues in the district include the Dental Health Theatre, Gateway Riverboat Cruises, and Laughs on the Landing, President Casino, Royal Dumpe Dinner Theater, and the Wax Museum.

Laclede’s landing also plays hosts to a number of annual cultural events, including the very popular Big Muddy Blues Festival, which is held over the Labor Day weekend and is a favorite with all age groups. This event features some of the top local and national blues bands and is open to the public free of charge. Laclede’s-Landing has a lot to offer to its visitors.
