State of Montana’s capital city Helena has its past written in gold. Helena was both discovered and brought to fame on account of the gold that was found in its soil, during 1964 and was named as the “Queen City of the Rockies”. The city flourished during the gold rush and at one time boasted of more than 50 millionaires. Chosen as the capital of Montana Territory in 1875 Helena became the capital for Montana State in 1889 and is also seat of the magnificent Lewis and Clark County.
The grand mansions of the 19th century, the restored initial dwellings, the majestic St. Helena Cathedral designed after the cathedral in Cologne, Germany, the State Capitol Building & Governor’s Mansion, the Montana Historical Museum and Downtown Montana referred to as Last Chance Gulch are the places of tourist interest.
