The Museum of the Rockies is located in the scenic city of Bozeman, Montana and this historic organization can take you back about four billion years in time. With focus on the Northern Rocky Mountain region, the museum attempts to educate public about the various life forms that have lived in here from prehistoric days to the present. The museum has on display a Tyrannosaurus rex skull which is world famous as it considered to be the largest unearthed till date.

Dedicated to the city of Montana in 1957 by Dr. Caroline McGill, the Museum of the Rockies holds over 300,000 objects and also depicts history of region in the last 4 billion years in its popular exhibit of Landforms/Lifeforms. However, one of the most admired displays is that of “One Day 80 Million Years Ago” which marvelously recreates the dinosaur nesting colonies unearthed by the Center’s Curator of Paleontology, Jack Horner. It boasts of one of the best paleontology collections in North America and also has a large number of exhibits pertaining to the western history. Another attraction is the 104-seat domed Taylor Planetarium which offers the stunning educational experience revolving around astronomy and other equally engrossing topics.

In addition to the indoor exhibits that acquaint you with the story of the past, a functional 19th century on-site farm throws light on the state’s agricultural traditions. Open only during summers when there are daily exhibitions coupled with ample activities for children and tours of the historic Tinsley House.
