People's Center

native dancer at people's center

The People's Center is not just a museum. It is a complete life like experience of the Native American culture and history. Located in the Flathead Indian Reservation of Pablo, West Montana, The People's Center was established in the year 1990 with an aim to promote the rich ancient culture of the Salish, Kootenai and Pend d'Orielle tribes. The center now is an educative and cultural interpretation zone where visitors can discover artifacts and exhibits, learn about the life style and traditions, witness their exceptional skills in art and craft and also listen to stories that transport you to a completely different era. There are several myths and stereotypes associated with the Native Americans, which The People's Center tries to dispel.

Tourists can look forward to Historic, Cultural and Education activities. A tour of the exhibits of fine arts and craft put up in the Museum sheds light on all aspects of the lives of these three tribes. The collection consists of photographs, handicrafts like beaded bags, artifacts, tools made of stone and some attractive dance outfits. All the items on display are set up through loans, donations or purchases.

Education activities are given special importance and public is invited to monthly sessions on acquiring the skills of the Salish, Kootenai and Pend d'Orielle tribes. From beading classes to native games a wide range of sessions bring the regular public closer to a unique cultural experience.
