Arbor Day Farm, situated in Nebraska City, Nebraska, is a 260 acre (1.05 sq-km) education complex. It also features an impressive apple orchard. Certain parts of the orchard bear a number of heirloom varieties, including the outsized Wolf River apple. The Arbor Day Farm is also home to the historic Apple Barn, where visitors are given an opportunity to view a video about cider pressing and observe the fall harvest. Besides, the orchard also has an elegant gift shop. The Pie Garden is yet another attraction in the Farm.
The Arbor Day Farm, formerly named Morton’s Farm, also hosts a number of programs emphasizing on trees, environmental stewardship, and conservation. Most of these programs are presented by the National Arbor Day Foundation. Also, the Farm introduces innovative agricultural practices through specialized agro-forestry plantations, demonstrations, and arboretums. Other main attractions at the Farm include the Morton Barn, the Apple House, the Lied Greenhouse, the Canopy Tree House Trail, the Pavilion, and the Tree Adventure.
Lodging facilities are made available to the visitors at the magnificent Lied Lodge & Conference Center. A major landmark adjacent to the Farm is the Arbor’s Lodge, the former home of Morton. The Arbor Lodge State Historical Park and the Arbor Day Farm attracts thousands of visitors of annually, and are a “must-see” in Nebraska City.
