Chadron State Park situated 9 miles (14 km) south of Chadron, Nebraska, is the oldest Park in the State. It is well-known for its natural beauty. The splendor of the Pine Ridge in its backdrop is sure to awe any visitor. The Chadron State Park encompasses nearly 974 acres (3.94 sq. km.) and is surrounded by the Pine Ridge Division of the Nebraska National Forest.
The amenities offered by the State Park include 22 modern housekeeping cabins, a multi-use facility for group camp, and a modern RV campground. Each lodging accommodation is furnished with bed linens, towels, and blankets. Cribs are available for an additional fee. The campground, on the other hand, provides 30 amp electrical hookups, laundry, grills, picnic tables, showers, dump station, and a playground for kids.
The main recreational activities at the Chadron State Park include swimming, trout fishing, pedaling, jeep rides, horseback trail rides, and hiking. Some visitors also try their hand at archery, play tennis or sand volley ball, and arrange for a buffalo stew cookout. Miles of nature trails run through the Park, connecting with several other trails, which lace forest lands. The main attraction nearby is the spectacular observation point on the National Forest Land. A wide variety of crafts are on tap at the Chartran Trading Post. Chadron State Park is the ideal locale for those who wish to literately retreat to the leisure of a bygone age.
