The Lincoln County Historical Museum, situated on the first floor of the Lincoln Cultural Center in North Platte, Nebraska, was established by the Lincoln County Historical Association. The Museum aims at collecting, preserving, studying, and exhibiting historical materials and other authentic artifacts related to the history and heritage of Lincoln County. The Museum offers a glimpse of the local history, early immigrants, Lincoln County in the Civil War, the Battle of Ramsour’s Mill, and the lifestyle of the ancient Native American inhabitants. Weapons, wagons, tools, and other artifacts are placed on display in a restored Old West Town.
Displays of several facets of pioneer life are showcased at the Lincoln County Historical Museum. These displays include an old doctor’s office, beauty shop, period room settings, furniture, and a post office. Besides, the Museum also houses a permanent exhibit, honoring the significant contributions made by the volunteers of the World War II North Platte Canteen. Featured in the display are pictures, letters from people whose lives were influenced by their contact with the people of North Platte, and an exhibit of all types of memorabilia.
There are a number of historical buildings on the museum grounds. These restored and preserved buildings include the Pony Express Log building (1860), the Fort McPherson Headquarters building (1863), the Brady Island Union Pacific Railroad Depot (1866), the DAR Log Cabin (1866), the Lutheran Church, and Frederickson House (1899). The Museum is also home to the barber shop (1900), a general store, and a two-storey log house (1869). The Lincoln County Historical Museum is a great place to visit in Nebraska and is certainly not worth missing.
